TRANSMIC research presented in Salamanca and Barcelona (Polina Palash)

November 23rd, 2016 by Niels

In June 2016 Polina Palash (ESR7), together with her thesis director Virginie Baby-Collin, presented a paper in the CEISAL 8th International Congress in Salamanca in Instituto de Iberoamérica, University of Salamanca. The paper concerned the empirical findings related to the social protection conditions and arrangements of Ecuadorian families in Barcelona, in a context of economic crisis. CEISAL is an arena for a reflection on the social, cultural, economic and political realities that connects together researchers from different fields in Social Sciences. Its network brings together the main institutes and specialised centres on Latin American studies, as well as national associations of social research on Latin America in Europe.

In November 2016 the PhD student presented in a workshop on the Challenges in the study of migrants’ global social protection organised by Sònia Parella and Alisa Petroff  in Institut d’Estudis Catalans in Barcelona. The presentation concerned the empirical findings of 14 months of multi-sited ethnographic fieldwork carried out by Palash between August 2015 and October 2016. The workshop joined distinguished researchers on the topic of migrants’ transnational social protection, as Jean-Michel Lafleur and Peggy Levitt.
