TRANSMIC PhD researchers present co-authored paper in Geneva

June 14th, 2016 by Niels

On 6 June 2016, Luuk van der Baaren (University of Liège) and Hanwei Li (University of Tampere) presented a co-authored paper ‘Wealth Influx/Wealth Exodus: Investment Migration from China to Portugal’ at the conference ‘Investment Migration: Making Sense of the Trend’ in Geneva, Switzerland. The conference was co-organized by the University of Groningen, the Graduate Institute Geneva and the Investment Migration Council. The paper of Van der Baaren and Li is the result of interdisciplinary research and addresses wealth migration from China to Portugal. It aims to fill this knowledge gap by analyzing investment migration from China to Portugal through an emigration- as well as an immigration perspective. It also debunks misconceptions among contemporary discussions on the causes and consequences of investment migration from China to Portugal. Being a collaborative work, it proves the added value of the TRANSMIC network that brings scholars from different disciplines together to work on contemporary migration issues.
